Michaeleans join advocacy vs human trafficking

Human trafficking is the illegal transit or displacement of persons, according to the International Labor Organization (ILO).

In the Philippines, ILO reported that thousands of children and women are trafficked everyday.
Such was the problem that advocate Cecilia Oebanda attempts to fight in her foundation, Visayan Forum.

Saint Michael’s College of Laguna pledged to assist the foundation thru the iFight movement.
The partnership was done July 3 during the campus tour led by Oebanda herself.

Forum was started by Sr. Cecilia Espenilla, Siena College, who talked about the types, modes and recent news about human trafficking.

She also talked about Sweetie, an internet avatar created by the children’s rights organization Terres des Homes from Netherlands to lure Internet predators.

Next to talk was Oebanda, who shared her recent operations to catch human traffickers.

She also showed a clip of her interview with the rescued victims from the Center of Hope.
