Research presentation held to honor late school director

Six faculty members presented their studies on Aug. 24 at St. Theodore Hall. The papers, which were chosen to represent the best research produced this term, were part of the 3rd Milagros Limaco Paper Presentation, held in memory of the first school director. Presenters were Dr. Socorro Rodriguez and Mr. Apollinaris Castelltort (waste management), Mrs. Ruth Ann Musngi (Grade School academic profile), Mr. T-Jay Medina (teacher motivation and ICT), Mr. Alfrie Sarmiento (facial recognition through dimension reduction), and Ms. Inecita Cuevas (outreach success stories). Research on waste management, academic profile, and facial recognition elicited questions from the audience composed of Grade 10-12 and college students. Students asked how the findings would be utilized by SMCL. The researchers commented that SMCL has taken initial steps such as waste segregation information campaign and intensive remedial classes for academically-challenged elementary pupils. Michaelean faculty present researches in New York

Faculty members cum administrators presented their researches in a Filipino American teachers' conference in New York. VP for Academics and Research Dr. Maria Regina Milagros Manabat and Director for Student Services Ms. Inecita Cuevas represented SMCL in the International Research and Education Conference held at 4 West 43rd St., New York City on Oct. 27-31. Both researches also served as session chairs during the paper presentations. Dr. Manabat presented her research entitled "What drives the formation of “valuable” Academe - Industry Partnership: The case of HEIs and Companies in the CALABARZON," co-authored with Research Director Dr. Socorro Rodriguez and SMCL President Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese. Said research was produced in part with the assistance of the Commission on Higher Education. SMCL ICS wins in iSITE student research tilts

Students from the Institute of Computer Studies received three awards for their researches during the 2nd Regional IT Competitions and Research Conference and Presentation, March 13. The Michaeleans' research entitled "QSearch: A question bank decision support system using query expansion algorithm" won Best Thesis. Meanwhile, another research, "Decal: Data mining clustering technique with report customization," was awarded second place. On the other hand, the group of "Kaijento: An artificial intelligence mobile game application using Minimax algorithm" was recognized 2nd Best Presenter. Integrated Southern Tagalog Association of IT Education, a group of IT educators from the Calabarzon region, sponsored the event that was held at University of Perpetual Help System - Jonelta, Biñan Campus. SMCL ICS wins best research paper in UA&P's IT conference

    Michaeleans from the Institute of Computer Studies bested contenders in an I.T. research conference sponsored by the University of Asia and the Pacific held at Pearl Ortigas, Feb. 24. The research entitled "iDetek A3: Dimensional Multi view Image Analysis for Face Recognition" was hailed Best Research Paper during the Research Conference on Emerging Technology in Asia and the Pacific 201. Said paper was authored by Maria Nina L. Capunitan, Raphael Karlo A. Entena, Jean Patrick A. Luna, Fatima Michelle B. Demata, and John Carlo C. Teñido. Reynante M. Francia and Dr. Anna Liza A. Ramos advised the team. Theme of the conference was "I.T. Solutions for Business Problems." Photos: A. Ramos
