SMCL cops 5th place in world robotics tilt

SMCL Junior High School students ranked first among the Philippine teams and fifth overall in an international robotics competition held in Cebu. Angelic Gears team composed of Vinz Jandrey Bisa (JHS '19), Mary Shan Cai Eje (JHS '19), and Christelle Denise Villapando (JHS '20) placed fifth among 13 competing countries in the 1st World Robotics Olympiad Friendship Invitational on Aug. 30-Sept. 2.   Participating students from Chinese Taipei, Japan, Turkey, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Malaysia, Romania, Denmark, Hungary, Germany, the Philippines, and the United States of America competed in three categories namely Regular Elementary, Regular Junior High, Regular Senior High, and Football. K to 12 Welcome Week Schedule July 16-20 (OrSem) July 23 (Regular Academic Classes) All students should be in Type A uniform. Only new and transfer students may wear civilian attire (Polo shirt, T-shirt/blouse, regular-fitting pants, and rubber shoes only. Sando/spaghetti strap/sleeveless, shorts, mini-skirt, worn out/ripped jeans, backless tops, slippers/sandals, punk hairstyles, makeup, dangling earrings (for girls) and any form of earring (for boys) are not allowed.) Bring only the assignment notebook and writing materials (paper, pen, pencil) during the first week. Books and academic notebooks (BLA's) and other academic requirements should be brought starting July 23.

Michaelean athletes shine in 9th ASEAN Schools Games

Aquino wins gold in long jump Calixto gets silver in 4x100m run Two Michaelean high school athletes scored medals in the 9th ASEAN Schools Games held in Singapore, July 13-21.   Karl Arvyn Aquino dominated the long jump event at Bishan Stadium. He led competing athletes from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Laos with a 7.05 record. Thai Churod Chatchanan followed at 6.68, while another Filipino, John Marvin Rafols inched at 6.58. Also, Aquino, together with teammates John Carlo Yuzon, Veruel Verdadero, and another Michaelean, Joviane Calixto, clocked 00:42.60 finishing second to Thailand (at 00:41.01) in the 4x100m run. Aquino then bagged the bronze medal in triple jump (final) at 14.88. Filipino runner Rafols won the gold medal at 15.02, followed by Thai Srinonta Nattapong at 14.91. SMCL offers scholarship grants for SHS and JHS

Saint Michael's College of Laguna announced that scholarships for junior high school and senior high school will be offered for the next school year, 2017-2018. The President's Scholarship Grant for Senior High School is open for incoming Grade 11 students who have 85% and above general average. Bona fide students qualify for the competitive examinations to be held at SMCL. Meanwhile, incoming Grade 7 students who have 85% and above general average may take the Limaco Scholarship Test. Passers will be given the Limaco Scholarship Grant for Junior High School. These grants are open for both public and private school completers of Grade 6 (for JHS) and Grade 10 (for SHS). Michaelean named as 'young adult mentor' in First Lego League

Jazmin Tan, a Michaelean Senior High School student, was given the Young Adult Mentor Award by Felta Multimedia and Lego Philippines during the Philippine leg of First Lego League on Feb. 18. Tan was cited for her evident "support, impact, inspiration, and guidance... in the team’s discussion with the judges." Likewise, the SMCL Robotics Team was recognized for having improvised and overcome a difficult situation while still making a respectable showing - the Against All Odds/Overcoming Adversity/Perseverance award. Held in Quezon City, this year's FLL focused on real-world problems pertaining to animals. "Animal Allies" required students "to build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game." Record-setter Karl Aquino leads Angels rally in athletics

Milo Little Olympics gold medalist Karl Arvyn Aquino led the Angels athletics team in the Regional Sports Competition by breaking the triple jump record, 14.38 m. Aquino snagged three gold medals in triple jump, long jump, and 110m hurdles. He will represent Calabarzon in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa. Likewise, Leonalyn Raterta and Jovianne Calixto were chosen as Philippine representatives in the 12th Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships. Raterta was champion in 1500m and 3000m run, while Calixto got gold in 100m and 200m dash. Other Michaelean runners who emerged as top players in the RSC were Lovely Gemeroy, Mica Cabbadu, Tracy Baylon, Aira Polintan, Angelo Felisilda, Francis Gerald Lopez, and John Albert Del Mundo. Michaeleans recognized in Italy's global poetry tilt

Michaeleans from Junior High School and Senior High School were once again recognized by the jury of the International Competition of Poetry and Theater - Duino Castle in Trieste, Italy for this academic year. The board of judges, composed of poets and literary scholars awarded the title 'Special Mention' to the SMCL entry, "Encrypting Generations, Generating Encryptions." a collection of poems in English tackling the theme "From generation to generation." Poets were Jose Rodrigo Papa, John Carlos Ilagan, Karl Patrick Suyat, Beatrice Valen Peñaflor, Cherrie Mae Azucena, Gail Neriz Shouder, Zerline Mae Porras, Khey Anne Espiritu, Alexis Arielle Maneja, Gerlie Anne Laydia, Jazmin Tan, Gerardo Laydia, Jr., and Francis Aron Riano. SMCL bares SMCLet schedule for incoming junior high students

Incoming Grade 7 students for AY 2016-2017 may now take the SMCL entrance test (SMCLet) starting Saturday, Feb. 6. Applicants should visit the Admissions Center (all Saturdays of February) to take the exam. Qualifiers may apply for a tuition subsidy amounting to P8,500 as provided by the Private Education Assistance Committee - Fund for Assistance to Private Education (PEAC-FAPE) under the Educational Service Contracting (ESC) program. SMCL has more than 300 slots available for new Grade 7 students. CSC prez places 3rd in regional robotics tilt

High School Central Student Council (CSC) president won 3rd place in the Department of Education (DepEd) regional Robotics competition, Oct. 15. Jazmin Tan, Grade 10, was adjudged as one of the best contenders in the individual category for her robot named “AideNi” (short for Automated Instructor’s Device for Efficient and eNgaging Instructions”. “AideNi”, which Tan calls as “Aide ni Sir/Ma’am” or Teacher Aide coveted the third prize at the Regional Science and Technology Fair and Congress held at Bacoor National High School. “AideNi” has features intended to help teachers in classroom instruction. It has a media player and a portable projector for presentation of lessons. Also, it has motion sensor and voice command features intended to make it walk around the classroom.
