SMCL to be a Microsoft Testing Center

Saint Michael's College of Laguna signed a memorandum of agreement with Innovative Training Works, Inc. appointing SMCL as a testing center for Microsoft certificates. Signing between SMCL President Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese and IT Works Country Manager Mr. Feliz Christopher Alegre III took place at St. Beatrice Ballroom, Nov. 13. Said agreement authorizes SMCL to administer Certiport programs such as Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification and Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) certification. As a Certiport Authorized Testing Center, SMCL can provide the following services related to MOS and MTA certifications: issuance of digital transcripts, electronic certificate fulfillment, online technical customer support, and online practice tests.

SMCL gets Star Award from TESDA

Saint Michael's College of Laguna became the first private technical vocational institution in Calabarzon to be certified with a star rating by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Tesda awarded a one star rating to SMCL for its Bread and Pastry Production NC II program. The ceremony was held at Crowne Plaza Manila, Oct. 27. The Star Award is given to a technical-vocational training provider that passed the threshold of candidate status during the certification visit. SMCL met the minimum threshold of competency-based training program delivery and program performance measures. SMCL President Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese and Polytechnic Courses Dept. Head Mrs. Ma. Linda D. Pio received the Star Award in behalf of SMCL. The certification was valid for one year.

The main gate along the Old National Road will be closed effective 26 October 2017. The Segunda Limaco Main Gate on Teodora Street and near Our Lady of Mount Carmel Schoolhouse will serve as the pedestrian access gate for students, personnel, and visitors. Gate 3 (VIP Gate) along Teodora Street will be used as "Entry" for all incoming vehicles. The SMCC Secondary Gate (fronting BiƱan Doctors Hospital Inc.) will be the "Exit" during designated hours only: 6:00 to 8:30 A.M. and 2:00 to 4:30 P.M. All vehicles will exit using Gate 2 for the rest of the day. Michaelean exchange students visit Hiroshima

Six Michaeleans were part of the first batch of exchange students bound for Hiroshima, Japan from Oct. 9-22. Senior High School students headed by Robotics coach and IT instructor Alfrei Lakindanum went to partner school National Institute of Technology-Hiroshima College (formerly Hiroshima National College of Maritime Technology) attended Electronics class (Relay Wiring), Nxt programming class using C language, Robotics Engineering, engine peak of the Japanese’s culture through their visits to historical places and temples, Japanese calligraphy. They were Jazmin Tan,  King Miles Ramos, Jeane Loraine Rombaoa, Carl Joseph Dela Paz, Jan Patrick Luiz Dalicano, Angelo Sanguyo. Participants also attended Robo-con 2017, a robotics tournament of KOSEN (technology institutes) to observe and learn strategies. CEM awards SMCL admin for leadership excellence

Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. (CEM), a testing services provider in the Philippines gave SMCL the school leadership excellence award on Sept. 8 at EDSA Shangri-La, Manila. SMCL's Integrated School Director, Mrs. Elena Manalo was recognized for her leadership efforts in the field of assessment and research in the Luzon region. The College was also cited for "commendable support" to Mrs. Manalo. SMCL President Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese received the award for the College. Said awards were handed out during the 39th Anniversary Conference of CEM.

SMCL welcomes Japan technical institute partners

Saint Michael's College of Laguna welcomed prospective Japanese technical institute partners on Aug. 30 at St. Beatrice Ballroom. SMCL President Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese, met with Dr. Yosuke Hara of the National Institute of Technology Ube College and Dr. Amanai Kazu of the National Institute of Technology Tokuyama College (NITTC) for a prospective English Proficiency Program to be rolled out by SMCL for the two Japanese Institutes in Japan. They were accompanied by Dr. Katsuhiro Narikiyo of the National Institute of Technology Hiroshima College who is responsible for the academic exchange program of SMCL and NIT HC.

Manila Times highlights The Michaelean Herald

The Michaelean Herald, the official school organ of Saint Michael’s College of Laguna was featured in the Sunday issue of The Manila Times as a way of providing avenues to student-journalists to be read on a national scale. The Manila Times published their Sunday Times with the four paged contribution of the school publication. The release of TMH was one of the highlights of the school’s 42nd anniversary. TMH featured the history of SMCL and its humbling mission to educate the poor people of BiƱan when it opened in 1975. It also contained quick facts about the school and its strong faculty known for being academically qualified and competent to manage the students. Two weeks after, the College President, Dr. Lourdes Almeda- Sese was featured in its Lifestyle issue for having propelled SMCL to what it is now, a 21st century institution of learning and scholarship.

Saint Michael's College of Laguna now offers Senior High School at a low rate of P750 per month for first semester, academic year 2017-2018. This offer applies to Grade 10 completers of BiƱan Public Junior High Schools and recipients of the local government voucher. Enrollees should also be from the upper 20% of the graduating class. SMCL is an autonomous, accredited, and ISO-certified higher education institution that offers Accountancy and Business Management (ABM), Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and Humanities and Social Sciences (HumSS) in Senior High School. Michaeleans recognized in Italy's global poetry tilt

Michaeleans from Junior High School and Senior High School were once again recognized by the jury of the International Competition of Poetry and Theater - Duino Castle in Trieste, Italy for this academic year. The board of judges, composed of poets and literary scholars awarded the title 'Special Mention' to the SMCL entry, "Encrypting Generations, Generating Encryptions." a collection of poems in English tackling the theme "From generation to generation." Poets were Jose Rodrigo Papa, John Carlos Ilagan, Karl Patrick Suyat, Beatrice Valen Peñaflor, Cherrie Mae Azucena, Gail Neriz Shouder, Zerline Mae Porras, Khey Anne Espiritu, Alexis Arielle Maneja, Gerlie Anne Laydia, Jazmin Tan, Gerardo Laydia, Jr., and Francis Aron Riano. SMCL ICS wins best research paper in UA&P's IT conference

    Michaeleans from the Institute of Computer Studies bested contenders in an I.T. research conference sponsored by the University of Asia and the Pacific held at Pearl Ortigas, Feb. 24. The research entitled "iDetek A3: Dimensional Multi view Image Analysis for Face Recognition" was hailed Best Research Paper during the Research Conference on Emerging Technology in Asia and the Pacific 201. Said paper was authored by Maria Nina L. Capunitan, Raphael Karlo A. Entena, Jean Patrick A. Luna, Fatima Michelle B. Demata, and John Carlo C. TeƱido. Reynante M. Francia and Dr. Anna Liza A. External auditors recommend ISO re-certification for SMCL

Auditors from Tuv Rheinland Philippines congratulated the administration, faculty, and staff of Saint Michael's College of Laguna for a successful ISO re-certification audit on Feb. 24. The audit focused on ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System across all programs (pre-elementary to college) and services. Tuv Rheinland group was led by Rafael Magsino. Members were Hilario Capili, Jogina Mendiola, and Ramoncito Puyat. During the management briefing at the end of the day, the auditors announced that they decided to recommend the re-certification due to zero non-conformity. SMCL is an ISO-certified higher educational institution since 2014.

SMCL hosts city career information guidance event

Saint Michael's College of Laguna played host to the 2017 Career Information Guidance program of the City of BiƱan on February 17 at the College's St. Theodore Hall. One thousand two hundred Grade 10 students from the Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial National High School participated in the event sponsored by the city's Public Employment Services Office (PESO). City PESO Officer Romualdo Garcia took charge of the activity.

Pacucoa recognizes SMCL's autonomous status

The Autonomous Status of Saint Michael’s College of Laguna was recognized by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) during its 27th Annual General Assembly with the theme, "Impact of Quality Assurance on the Internationalization of Education” on December 2, 2016 at Novotel Araneta Center. The award was conferred by PACUCOA Chairman, Dr. Jaime M. Buzar and Dr. Conrad E. Inigo, Vice-Chairman. The status is effective from April 1, 2016 to May 31, 2019. Also, SMCL bagged the third place in the poster-making contest inspired by PACUCOA’s theme.  In SMCL, the Commission on Higher Education awarded the said status to SMCL in recognition of its quality management and standards.

SMCL joins Visiting Leadership Program

SMCL has been nominated as one of the HEIs to participate in the International Visiting Leadership Program (IVLP). IVLP is a program initiated by CHED, in partnership with the Education USA and the Embassy of the United States. Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese will represent the College. The US visit is scheduled on April 1-9, 2016.

SMCL celebrates 42nd College Week

The 42nd week-long celebration was a huge success with 100% of all the events lined-up successfully realized. In celebration of its 42nd College Week, Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMCL) in partnership with the College Student Council (CSC) conducted a Youth Empowerment Forum with the theme: #How to Be You on the 25th day of January 2017, Wednesday, 10:00 to12:00 noon at Saint Theodore Hall. The forum’s outcome is an inspired and empowered Filipino youth who are willing to lead and create changes in their community. By listening to the vision of the selected speakers and how they charted their course to be significant figures in their field, the forum hoped to unleash their passion to be servant-leaders. Hon.
