SMCL cops 5th place in world robotics tilt

SMCL Junior High School students ranked first among the Philippine teams and fifth overall in an international robotics competition held in Cebu.

Angelic Gears team composed of Vinz Jandrey Bisa (JHS '19), Mary Shan Cai Eje (JHS '19), and Christelle Denise Villapando (JHS '20) placed fifth among 13 competing countries in the 1st World Robotics Olympiad Friendship Invitational on Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

 

Participating students from Chinese Taipei, Japan, Turkey, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Malaysia, Romania, Denmark, Hungary, Germany, the Philippines, and the United States of America competed in three categories namely Regular Elementary, Regular Junior High, Regular Senior High, and Football.

Teams vied for top scores in the challenges based on the theme, "Food Matters." Students were required to build a program and a robot that would solve a specific problem set.

Two other teams from SMCL (Senior Team A and Senior Team B) qualified as finalists in their respective categories.

Russia copped the first place trophy in the Regular Junior High category.
