SMCL celebrates 42nd College Week




The 42nd week-long celebration was a huge success with 100% of all the events lined-up successfully realized.

In celebration of its 42nd College Week, Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMCL) in partnership with the College Student Council (CSC) conducted a Youth Empowerment Forum with the theme: #How to Be You on the 25th day of January 2017, Wednesday, 10:00 to12:00 noon at Saint Theodore Hall.

The forum’s outcome is an inspired and empowered Filipino youth who are willing to lead and create changes in their community. By listening to the vision of the selected speakers and how they charted their course to be significant figures in their field, the forum hoped to unleash their passion to be servant-leaders.

Hon. Mayor Walfredo “Arman” Dimaguila did the keynote address; other invited resource speakers were Dante Ang II, Executive Editor, President and CEO, The Manila Times and Mylene Abiva-Sazon, President/CEO, FELTA Multi-Media Inc. and Zonta D17 PR and Communications Chair.

Hon. Mayor Dimaguila inspired the student leaders with his own journey to success.

He urged them to believe in the power of their dreams and work for the fulfillment of their personal goals.

Miss Abiva shared her pride for the Filipino youth whose innovative and creative ideas could serve as their passport to global prominence and personal contentment.

Mr. Ang II instilled in the audience the need to be focused, dedicated and hardworking to achieve their preferred future. He impressed on the audience that they must not waste their time; instead they must pursue their dream, establish connections and keep people’s trust.

Denzel Lewis Flores, CSC President shared his call for action on behalf of all the attendees.

He encouraged them to empower themselves and empower others as well by being servant leaders in their school community.

Attendees were student leaders from SMCL, officers of student councils from public/private high schools and senior high schools in Biñan and the Z and Golden Z Clubs.

Delegates were from Jacobo Z. Gonzalez Memorial National High School, Lake Shore Educational Institution, Biñan City Senior High School, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Alpha Angelicum Academy, Biñan Applied Academics, Mamplasan National High School, BSSAA Timbao Campus Senior High School, Biñan National High School, Biñan City Senior HS, San Antonio Campus, Southville4 5-A National High School, Dela Paz National High School and Holy Infant Jesus of Prague School. The City Youth Development Office sent three delegates in the forum.

Opening of the Fair. Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese, College President and Mr. Dante Francis Ang II of Manila Times cut the ribbon to commence Fairyesta 2017.

Holy Mass

A mass was celebrated by Fr. Emil Urriquia on 26 August 2016 at Saint Theodore. Fr. Emil, in his homily, urged all Michaeleans to count their blessings and make their Alma Mater proud at all times.

Trade Fair

The Institute of Business Administration spearheaded the Trade Fair. There were kiosks manned by students, faculty and other concessionaires.

The fair showcased the entrepreneurial skills of the students. Rides were ferris wheel and horror train. CSC and students organizations monitor the cleanliness and the use of chits in the Trade Fair.

Battle of the Bands




The Central Student Council sponsored the Battle of the Bands that aimed at exposing the vocal performance and the musicality of the youth.

Participants were Michaeleans and their friends; a total of 12 bands participated. Big winner was the band with Senior High School students. 

The contest was judged by SMCL Alumni namely Wendell Lijauco, RS Rada and Justin Policarpio.

Tete-a-tete with SMCL Alumni. Dubbed as the #howtobeyou forum alumni edition, the gathering showcased former graduates of SMCL who shared their journey to success.

Invited were McLarnell Aliluran (Education), Jocelyn Acierto (Nursing), Ms. Adel Sanguyo (BA) who shared their testimonials to Senior High School students.

Others who shared their journey to success were Dr. Anna Liza Ramos and Associate Dean Marlyn Pio.

Gathering of Angels

Michaelean graduates from 1978 to 2016 attended the Gathering of Angels on January 29 at Saint Beatrice Ballroom.

The event tagged as “SMCL, our home still”, included the group photo per batch/decade and team-building activities.









Dr. Maria Regina Milagros C. Manabat, Vice-President for Academics and Research and Head of External relations welcomed the alumni who shared that “There is more in homecomings; it is really coming home”.  

College President, Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese presented the achievement of SMCL and expressed her wish for the alumni - - that they continue to take pride in being  Michaeleans and that they make something out of themselves in their own sphere of influence.

Festival of Talents

Culminating the week-long celebration was the Festival of Talents that featured performances on famous Disney icons and contemporary films.

The annual presentation also showcased the best of the Michaelean talents, Michaeleans at their best.




























Big winners were the Middle School (Madagascar), Grade 11 (Warcraft), Grade 9 (The Three Musketeers) and Institute of Business Administration (The Mummy).

The first runners-up were Grade 8 (Peter Pan) for the Junior High School and Institute of Education and Liberal Arts (Harry Potter).

Judges were Bryan Jayson Borja, Director, City Tourism Office, Benjie Ligas, Director of Muntinlupa Metropolitan Theater and Angela Morando, MAPEH Education Supervisor of the City of Biñan.

Fireworks Display

The one-week-celebration ended with the fireworks display, mass dancing and photo op’s.
