SMCL to be a Microsoft Testing Center

Saint Michael's College of Laguna signed a memorandum of agreement with Innovative Training Works, Inc. appointing SMCL as a testing center for Microsoft certificates. Signing between SMCL President Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese and IT Works Country Manager Mr. Feliz Christopher Alegre III took place at St. Beatrice Ballroom, Nov. 13. Said agreement authorizes SMCL to administer Certiport programs such as Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification and Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) certification. As a Certiport Authorized Testing Center, SMCL can provide the following services related to MOS and MTA certifications: issuance of digital transcripts, electronic certificate fulfillment, online technical customer support, and online practice tests.

SMCL cops 5th place in world robotics tilt

SMCL Junior High School students ranked first among the Philippine teams and fifth overall in an international robotics competition held in Cebu. Angelic Gears team composed of Vinz Jandrey Bisa (JHS '19), Mary Shan Cai Eje (JHS '19), and Christelle Denise Villapando (JHS '20) placed fifth among 13 competing countries in the 1st World Robotics Olympiad Friendship Invitational on Aug. 30-Sept. 2.   Participating students from Chinese Taipei, Japan, Turkey, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Malaysia, Romania, Denmark, Hungary, Germany, the Philippines, and the United States of America competed in three categories namely Regular Elementary, Regular Junior High, Regular Senior High, and Football. Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAPSCU) installed its new leader, Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese, Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMCL) president on Aug. 26, at Makati Shangri La, Manila, Rizal Ballroom B. During the 9th Installation and Turnover Ceremonies hosted by SMCL, Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, PAPSCU Executive Director shared the new president’s experience and qualifications, while SMCL introduced the association through a multimedia presentation. Then, Dr. Jose Paulo Campos, outgoing president of PAPSCU, and the new President Emeritus, inducted Dr. Sese in the oathtaking ceremony. Ms. Rhodora Angela Ferrer, Executive Director of Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), congratulated Dr. Sese and challenged the association to be resilient during the K to 12 transition. Research presentation held to honor late school director

Six faculty members presented their studies on Aug. 24 at St. Theodore Hall. The papers, which were chosen to represent the best research produced this term, were part of the 3rd Milagros Limaco Paper Presentation, held in memory of the first school director. Presenters were Dr. Socorro Rodriguez and Mr. Apollinaris Castelltort (waste management), Mrs. Ruth Ann Musngi (Grade School academic profile), Mr. T-Jay Medina (teacher motivation and ICT), Mr. Alfrie Sarmiento (facial recognition through dimension reduction), and Ms. Inecita Cuevas (outreach success stories). Research on waste management, academic profile, and facial recognition elicited questions from the audience composed of Grade 10-12 and college students. Students asked how the findings would be utilized by SMCL. The researchers commented that SMCL has taken initial steps such as waste segregation information campaign and intensive remedial classes for academically-challenged elementary pupils. One of the
