Research presentation held to honor late school director
Six faculty members presented their studies on Aug. 24 at St. Theodore Hall.
The papers, which were chosen to represent the best research produced this term, were part of the 3rd Milagros Limaco Paper Presentation, held in memory of the first school director.
Presenters were Dr. Socorro Rodriguez and Mr. Apollinaris Castelltort (waste management), Mrs. Ruth Ann Musngi (Grade School academic profile), Mr. T-Jay Medina (teacher motivation and ICT), Mr. Alfrie Sarmiento (facial recognition through dimension reduction), and Ms. Inecita Cuevas (outreach success stories).
Research on waste management, academic profile, and facial recognition elicited questions from the audience composed of Grade 10-12 and college students.
Students asked how the findings would be utilized by SMCL. The researchers commented that SMCL has taken initial steps such as waste segregation information campaign and intensive remedial classes for academically-challenged elementary pupils.
One of the plans to promote waste management was to conduct a point-system for students, said Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese, College President.
She urged the student councils across all levels to lead the garbage disposal project, which she believes would lessen the carbon footprint of SMCL.
Dr. Sese and Dr. Maria Regina M.C. Manabat, VPAR, then awarded the certificates of recognition to the presenters.
Finally, the 14 posters of student-researchers were opened for public viewing after the plenary session.
Studies from the institutes of Education, Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Nursing, HRM, and Computer Science focused on various themes related to their major.
The program was part of the activities for the 43rd Foundation Anniversary of the College.
