K-12 regional hop conducted at SMCL

Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) and Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) with support from the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) conducted the K-12 regional dialogue at Saint Michael’s College of Laguna, Oct. 13.

Held at SMCL’s St. Theodore Hall, the event was attended by parents, students, administrators, and teachers from different public and private schools in CALABARZON region.

Speakers were Dr. Diodado San Antonio, Director of DepEd Region4-A and Atty. Joseph Estrada, Legal Counsel of COCOPEA and Executive Director of Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges and Unviersities (PAPSCU).

Said regional hop served as information drive for key stakeholders  such as parents and school owners on all viable solutions offered during the  first transition years of K to 12.

Talks focused on senior high school implementation.

There were several questions raised on the floor after each talk.

Regional Director San Antonio stressed that all Grade 10 completers who are recipients of Educational Service Contracting (ESC) will automatically be given 80% of the voucher amount for public schools.

For Laguna, the voucher amount for public school graduates will be P17,500. For ESC grantees, it will be P14,000.

Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada

With such amount, DepEd hopes that Grade 10 completers may decide to study in private senior high schools with minimal top-ups.

DepEd has assured that it will subsidize fees of incoming Grade 11 students.

On the other hand, school administrators asked about the Learner Information System (LIS) and the online voucher application for private school graduates.

PAPSCU President Dr. Jose Paulo Campos

Dr. Diosdado San Antonio

Early registration and online applications begin in the last quarter of 2015 until first quarter of 2016.
Grade 10 completers from private schools were encouraged to apply individually thru the PEAC website, provided they meet the requirements of the government including parent’s income tax return (ITR) and others.
